Lament of Sovereign's Crew
Fer neare’ ten long years we sailed th' seven, While Cap'n Ed
swore he'd find us heaven.  And tho’ th’ demons rose on every
swell, and tho' th’ wind blew straight from hell, Cap’n Ed
still swore one day we’d meet our brethren. Harr, crewin’
abroad Sovereign aint fer th’ faint o’ heart, but fer ye
poor perverted souls on th’ edge of maddness!   Th’ roster o’
active members, kept carved in th’ skull o’ a mighty rude
waiter from New Orleans, are a bunch o’ bloodthirsty swabs.
True buccaneers who delight in a bottle o’ rum while pillagin’
an’ plunderin’ the shores o’ Lake Pontchartrain.  Gar!! Cap’n Ed’s
even been known t’ plunder these here cyber seas so don’t be surprised t’ see
some o’ yer booty awash on these pages.  Arg!!  Prime yer musket n’ sharpen yer
cutless mates.  Prepare yerself for some treacherous voyages aboard his King’s most
humble irritation – Sovereign. Aye, just remember t’ batten down th’ hatches n’ close all
th’ gun ports afore ye shoves off an’ perhaps one day ye will return.  Aye, ‘n perhaps one
day yer souls will burn in hell!  A'rr!    Take heed laddies; ‘Tis the lament of Sovereign’s
Crew.

4/96 Leukemia Cup Results
After a half hour delay, Saturday's Race started with a light south easterly breeze.  John Bogil was
foredeck with Larry at the mast. James and Beverly were in the cockpit with me driving.  Sovereign had the best
start in the "A" fleet which helped greatly on the first leg to the "J" mark.  With light air and smooth water, we
were holding our own -- actually crossing in front of Encore a third of the way up the leg.  At the "J" mark, it was
a bare away set towards the causeway "M" mark and an easy takedown just before rounding the "M" mark.   During
the second leg, we did well against the J-80's and the J-92 beating them around the mark. The last leg was a beat
back to the "S" mark with the port tack heavily favored.  The wind was increasing to about 15 knots and, with the
number 1 up, we managed to pick up Celebration and H20 Hazard finishing sixth out of fourteen.
Sunday was a much different day with southerly winds blowing around 15 to 20 knots and gusting above 30.
For crew Sovereign had John B., Larry and Kevin forward; John Clark and James in the cockpit.  Dave Piatt and his
dad Austin  helping out, Ed at the helm and Bev navaguessing.  The first leg was a carry (for those who dared --
and we did) towards the "M" mark.  Right before the "M" mark the starboard guy broke -- being the only damage
we suffered that day. Rounding "M", the second leg was a long run eventful beat towards the "J" mark. At the "J"
mark however, it was pop the chute and hold on for a wild ride to the finish at "S".  We finished about in the
middle for the series.
The delivery back to Slidell was very fast with Sovereign averaging about 8.2 knts. on a close reach.  Racing
in this series showed real improvement which was felt by the whole crew I believe.
